A slot is a position in a row, series or sequence. It can also refer to a gap between the wings or tail surface of an airplane, used for a high-lift device.
When you play a slot, you are betting on the chance that symbols will line up in a winning combination. Each machine has a pay table which tells you how many credits you’ll win if particular combinations appear on the reels. The pay table is usually shown on the front of the machine, but can also be found within the help menu on video slots.
Traditionally, all slot machines used revolving mechanical reels to display and determine results. The most common type of machine has one, three or five reels and a single horizontal payline.
