The game of Poker is a card game played between two or more players with chips (representing money) that are placed in the pot. The object is to create a poker hand that ranks higher than the others in order to win the pot. Although some people may believe that it is a game of chance, there is actually quite a bit of skill and strategy involved in the game.
The basics of the game:
When playing poker, each player receives two cards that are private to them, known as hole cards. Then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages, referred to as the flop, turn and river. Each player then has the option to bet, check, raise or fold.
To determine the winning hand, you must compare your own poker hand to those of the other players. The highest ranking hand is a royal flush which includes a 10, Jack, Queen and King of the same suit. A straight flush is five consecutive cards of the same suit (aces, hearts, diamonds or spades). Four of a kind is four matching cards of one rank. Two pair is two cards of the same rank and three other unmatched cards.
