Poker is a card game in which players try to get the highest-ranking hand with the cards dealt to them. Ultimately, the person with the best hand wins the pot, which is all of the money wagered during the hand. In case of a draw, the pot is divided equally among the remaining players.
The game is played with a standard 52-card deck, which can be enhanced with a joker. Usually, players have one hand, but games of up to seven players are played with two packs of contrasting colors. One pack is dealt, while the other is shuffled. In a typical game, the dealer will choose one hand and assemble all the cards from it to their left, and then pass the remaining shuffled deck to the next dealer.
During each betting round, all players but one may fold, and the remaining player will collect the pot without revealing their hand. When more than one player remains in the pot, the game is called a showdown. In the showdown, the players reveal their hands and the winner is declared. Depending on the game, the pot size can be large or small, but the winner is usually the player who has the best hand.
One of the best hands in poker is the “nuts,” which are two-card pairs. The best hand of this kind is a pair of sevens, and it’s possible to achieve a backdoor flush by hitting the needed cards on the turn and river.
